Conventional solar thermal collectors use solar energy to heat water, which can then be used to heat the radiators in the house, for example. In contrast, air collectors heat the outside air and direct it into the house in a filtered form. Since air absorbs the solar heat directly, without the detour via the medium water, air collectors have a very good efficiency.

In direct sunlight, solar air collectors can warm the outside air by up to 40°K, and still by 4°K to 10°K when the sky is overcast. In other words, if it is cloudy outside and the temperature is 16°C, the collectors will still deliver an air temperature of at least 20°C into the house. As soon as the air becomes too warm or too cold, the air collector switches off.

With 1 m² of collector area, 8 m² of living space can be heated. In old buildings, this can save up to one third of the heating costs. The disadvantage of solar air collectors compared to photovoltaics or solar thermal is that the energy cannot be stored and used at a later time. On the other hand, they work reliably even on cloudy days, when photovoltaics and solar thermal already provide hardly any energy.

Haustrocknung.ch is an owner-managed company based in Bern. Our field of activity includes primarily the drying of damp buildings by means of electrophysical wall dehumidification and ventilation systems. As we are convinced of the quality of Grammer®Solar technology, we actively contribute to its dissemination in Switzerland. Contact us without obligation.

Questions & Answers

What is solar heating?

Solar heating is usually understood as solar collectors that heat water, which is then used to heat the radiators in the house. In contrast, we offer solar air collectors that direct solar-heated air into the house.

What is the cost of solar heating?

Haustrocknung.ch offers solar heating systems with solar air collector from Grammer®Solar from CHF 1'500 - 2'000 per square meter of solar surface. The exact price depends on the number and size of the solar air collectors, the accessibility of the installation site and the travel time. Ask for a non-binding quote.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of solar heating with air collectors?

Automated ventilation with solar air collectors ensures a pleasant indoor climate all year round, reduces the risk of mold and noticeably lowers heating costs in winter. Solar air collectors have the highest efficiency of all solar systems - but unlike photovoltaic or solar thermal systems, they cannot store the energy and use it at a later time.

Why a solar heating from Haustrocknung.ch?

Haustrocknung.ch has specialized in the topic of moisture in buildings since 2010 and is well versed in the installation of ventilation systems. We only install high quality solar air collectors from Grammer®Solar, which have been manufactured in Germany for over 40 years and are the first air collectors in Europe to be certified with the Solar Keymark. The Keymark helps consumers to choose products that comply with European standards.

How much does solar heating cost?

The installation of a solar air collector costs about CHF 1'500 - 2'000 per square meter of solar surface. The price depends on the characteristics of the collector, our installation effort and the travel time. We will be happy to prepare an individual offer for you.

What are the electricity costs for solar heating?

Grammer®Solar's solar ventilation works completely self-sufficiently, as it generates the electricity for the fan itself. If the system is equipped with the "night ventilation" option, electricity costs of approx. CHF 25 per year can be incurred.

How does solar heating affect heating costs?

According to the manufacturer, solar air collectors can save up to one third of heating costs in old buildings. The actual cost savings depend on the nature of the residential building and the solar radiation on site and can vary greatly in individual cases. However, the efficiency of solar air heating is often underestimated and is surprisingly good even when the sky is overcast.

What maintenance costs and expenses should I expect?

The filter should be changed once or twice a year. Otherwise, solar air collectors are virtually maintenance-free and provide very constant performance for decades.

How does solar heating with air collectors work?

The solar air collector from Grammer®Solar generates electricity and uses it to drive a fan. This draws in air, which first flows through a filter, is then heated by up to 40°K in the air collector and finally circulates throughout the house. Once the desired room temperature is reached, the system switches off automatically.

What can the solar air heating all?

Solar heating from Grammer®Solar brings free solar heat into the house. This provides a healthy and comfortable indoor climate, reduces heating costs, prevents mold and keeps the house dry. Optionally, the air collector can be equipped with a night ventilation set, in which the ventilation is connected to the house's power grid. This allows the house to be cooled with cool night air in a time-controlled manner and ventilated in a user-controlled manner as needed.

Does the solar heating filter pollutants from the air?

Yes, the air drawn in passes through a filter before it enters the house. This filter must be changed once or twice a year. Otherwise, the system is maintenance-free.

How effective are solar air collectors on cloudy days?

While the air in the collector heats up by up to 40°K when exposed to direct sunlight, it is still 4°K to 10°K when the sky is overcast. This may sound like a low yield, but it actually corresponds to the highest efficiency of all solar systems. With an outside temperature of 16°C and overcast skies, the air collectors still deliver an air temperature of at least 20°C into the house.

Where does solar heating make sense?

Solar heating systems with air collectors are mainly used for smaller residential properties, such as single and multi-family houses, apartments, vacation homes, basements, garages, mountain, hunting, fishing and club huts, mobile homes, tiny houses and caravans. However, solar air collectors are also suitable for larger residential and industrial buildings, such as multi-story residential buildings or as a drying system for wood chips, hay, firewood, biofuels or malt.

How big should the air collector be?

Up to 8 m² of living space can be heated per square meter of collector area. With this dimensioning, the entire room air volume is exchanged 2.5 times per hour.

What to consider when installing solar heating?

Air collectors are mounted on flat roofs, pitched roofs or on facades - either flat or pitched. The ideal location should receive as much sunlight as possible and not be partially shaded.

How is the solar heating controlled?

The ventilation system is controlled by a thermostat. As soon as the desired temperature is reached, the system switches off. In the case of night ventilation, the system operates on a time-controlled basis or at the push of a button.

How does the order work?

After an initial consultation and property inspection, we will prepare an offer tailored to your property. If you agree, we install the solar heating. A lifting platform may be required for the installation.

How long does it take to install the solar heater?

The assembly of solar heating usually takes one day. The assembly time depends on the accessibility of the installation site and the number and size of solar air collectors.

How long does a solar heater last?

Grammer Solar® expects a service life of at least 25 years. The collectors have been manufactured in Germany for over 40 years and are certified according to the collector standard DIN EN ISO 9806 or DIN EN 12975-1.
